Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is special time for all women. You body is changing all the time and it is important for you to feel nurtured as your body prepares for the birth of your baby.

If you are having any complications during your pregnancy, please speak to your midwife before coming for a massage.

Pregnancy massage can be received either lying on                                                              your side supported with cushions or seated, again                                                                supported with cushions. Treatments include, back,                                                                neck & shoulder, legs & feet or a full body and can                                                                  last for 20-60 minutes. All treatment sessions can                                                                  be shortened depending on how you are feeling on                                                                the day.

Massage can be of great benefit in helping expectant mothers to prepare themselves physically and emotionally for childbirth and motherhood. It can help to:

  • Increase the circulation of blood to all areas of the body, therefore bringing           greater nutrition to the tissues including the placenta

  • reduce strain on the muscles of the lower back, abdomen and shoulders

  • reduce fluid retention

  • elevate mood due to the increased production of endorphins

  • improve the elasticity of the skin

  • increase the tone of the muscles that have become weakened and strained during pregnancy

  • stabilise hormonal levels through increased stimulation of glandular secretions

  • encourage rest and relaxation that is much needed during pregnancy

  • increase energy levels

  • soothe nerves and promote relaxation

through sedation of the nervous system

Before I can start massaging you I would

require written confirmation from your midwife

or doctor that it is safe for you to have a

pregnancy massage. I can send you the form

through the post to give to your midwife at your

next appointment for them to fill in and then

bring with you to your first massage

appointment.

A typical pregnancy massage will begin with a consultation (the first time you come) or an informal chat to see if anything has changed in your pregnancy since your last massage. Then you will lie/sit to receive your massage. After the massage you will be given time to relax and come back to your senses before you leave.

Aromatherapy oils can be used to enhance your massage experience, I have been specifically trained to use essential oils during pregnancy and I will of cause talk you through any oils I would use and make sure you are happy with them before I use any of them.
